An old map leads the characters on the trail to a horseshoe-shaped valley in search of treasure. This introductory-level adventure is based on the old-school approach of "hex-crawling," exploring through unknown areas toward a mysterious objective. Dangers abound along the way, but fortune favors the bold!
Given the spirit of this module, you'll notice that many of the encounters are not winnable by a group of 4-6 characters of 1st to 3rd level. There are also traps that will outright kill a low-level character (depending on death rules you utilize in your game, that is). That is the way it was with old school games. There was wisdom in running away and figuring out how to avoid combat, or to use the environment against a challenging encounter, and in also realizing that the players should have a good time but also be challenged.
