West Virginia 1861 is the story of the events that led to the separation of pro-Union West Virginia from the secessionist state of Virginia.
The Union must take a maximum number of regions to ensure that it will will the referendum, thus creating a friendly new state.
The Confederate must attempt to repulse their opponent to make the referendum fail and keep the state of Virginia intact.
West Virginia 1861 lasts 16 turns each representing about two weeks between May and December 1861. It opposes the Union and the Confederacy over the territory of the future state of West Virginia.Few forces of both sides are present on the field initially, but the will of the local unionists to win the referendum and keep their state within the Union and away from the secession will push both sides to send there an increasing number of forces, led by famous commanders surch as McClellan or Lee.
