Rogues of Europa

Rogues of Europa is a gothic roguelike RPG. Fight the physical and metaphysical evils brewing below the surface of a rapidly modernizing society.

Despite some setbacks and having to work later this week, I did manage to almost get that tinkering system ready. All the panels are now done, and I started on the tinkering screen and implementation. I was able to make several innovations this week which will have more exciting implications. First off, I made the mode-switching code more consistent, which should lead to less bugs or glitches due to switching between modes (e.g., from the game to the quest screen and back). While I haven't 100% capitalized on this (and maybe never will) it will lead to more efficient and effective code in the future. In addition, I can now apply filters to the inventory, which will likely have positive implications for the future. This dovetails with the smart-use item system where the inventory itself will also do what the player wants, such as filtering for weapons when the player is selecting something for his hand slots or filtering for armor when the player is selecting something for his armor slot. And I applied these two systems to the tinkering system, which you can see below. In this case, I'm adding explosives, fragments, and a radio trigger, which will allow me to place the tinkered item down and detonate it later when I activate the trigger. Pretty convenient when drawing monsters through a choke point. Also, since it's a pet peeve of mine, the tinkering slots remain filled with items even if the player navigates away from the screen, since the tinkering system represents thinking, in a sense. If you had an idea for something, you may not think about it temporarily and put it away for a bit, but as soon as you think about crafting again, it should pop right to the top of your head. Hopefully I can get that update out later this week, but I might be held longer at work this week. It's a bit of a busy time as the end of the fiscal year approaches.
