Caturday Update #2
Cats vs. Aliens Caturday Update #2

Hello and welcome, Invaders!
This time we’re talking SFX! And also the playtest that’s coming up January 10th (scroll down for that section of this update).
Why are sound effects so important right meow?
Adding sounds is just one of the ways that game developers give feedback to their players, letting them know something is happening, or that what they’re doing is working (or not). Cats vs Aliens has had several, but it needed more. And more, and more. Everything you do should have a sound attached to it, thereby creating a full auditory experience for you, my glorious invader! I’ve spent hours (and hours and hours) listening to what feels like every version of beeps, boops, zips, zaps, dings, and dongs that exist on the internet to find the perfect sounds for Cats vs Aliens. That’s… a lot of sound effects, considering they are mostly less than one second each. We’re talking thousands here, folks. I've made some myself as well, but for most of what I need I just plain old do not have access to the necessary equipment and setup. So asset packs and hours of listening it is. But this is a sacrifice I am willing to make JUST FOR YOU! I'll now hold for the applause I'm surely due, right? Thank you. I am still working on adding more, but so far pushing through scaling this mountain-that-feels-like-it-should-have-been-a-molehill task has paid off enormously. The soundscape being created here really brings all of the rest of the work together in a way few other things can. A quick list of what's already got sound: • Harvesting trees • Harvesting stone • Levelling Up • Upgrade display • Upgrade selection • Clowdermate chatter • Loot pickup A longer list of what still needs sound: • Projectiles firing • Enemy destruction • Player hits • player footsteps • Crafting initialization • Doors and gates • Unlocks • Building • Other stuff I'm probably forgetting right now And here are the sounds that are in, but need replaced: • Berry bush harvesting • UI navigation • Button presses
January 10th Playtesting
The next wave of Playtesting begins January 10th, so now’s your chance to sign up right on Steam. Click ‘Request Access’ and you should receive a notification the moment you’re granted access. It’s free to help me out, and it will help make Cats vs Aliens the best game it can be. I want Early Access to be heavily focused on adding content and not so much on fixing bugs that should have already been squashed before anyone pays a dime for my work.
Happy invading!!
