A staple of the Imperial Japanese Navy's bomber operations, this was one of the most effective and widely used medium bombers of World War II. Virtually every battle in the Pacific saw participation from the G4M, which the U.S. pilots and soldiers had nicknamed Betty. The first models also carried more sinister nicknames from Japanese pilots, who called them the G4M Hamaki (cigar), and American counterparts, who referred to them as the Flying Lighter—both denoting their propensity to easily catch fire. The G4M2 model was improved significantly in terms of aircraft and crew survivability, including self-sealing fuel tanks, armor panels in crew compartments, and much stronger defensive armament. Mitsubishi G4M2 in World of Warplanes is a slow but rather durable bomber with heavy defensive armament, including two 20 mm autocannons that cover the upper and aft hemispheres. The G4M2's bomb load consists of four 250 kg bombs with a relatively quick reload period, so it doesn't need to disengage from its main activity for long periods of time. To earn it, you'll need to participate in an upcoming game event.
