Marta - The heart and mind

In this series, we tell the story of crew members who have marked the history of the Trailblazers. The fourth one is an easy one. Marta kept a journal of most of her missions aboard the Landships. These journals are preserved in the largest library of Terminas, in a section dedicated to Trailblazers' expeditions. But discovering Marta also means listening to what the inhabitants of Terminas say about her, understanding that her imprint is indelible. What stands out from her notebooks is that very quickly, Marta found herself with the same crew members - her notebooks thus read like a description of a small, stable, and lively community. We learn that Lou had an excessive love for apples, that Berka had a melancholic temperament and that her frequent absences revealed an embodied darkness, that Arythmea, although assigned the role of geographer, was so short-sighted that reading maps was impossible for her. At first glance, one might think that we learn more about the other members of the community than about Marta herself. But this is to miss that it demonstrates Marta's big heart, her role as an observer, a human guide, and the glue of the community. Most of the time, this type of Trailblazers passes out of sight of official records and myths. They are the shadow Trailblazers, those whose kindness gives meaning to the savagery of the march. They are the shoulders to lean on. Marta is no longer of this world, but other Martas will continue to be born and exercise their gentleness and insight on the Trailblazers' communities.
