Kitchen Confidential #4 - Efficiency!

Automachef

Welcome to Automachef, a resource management puzzler where you design kitchens, program machinery and watch your genius come to life! It’s time to engineer tomorrow’s kitchen, today!

Hello fellow humans, Welcome to our fourth serving of Kitchen Confidential! As humans and definitely not robots, we love efficiency! But what is efficiency in Automachef and how can you make sure you’re always operating at 100% and maximising your profit margins?
Maximum Efficiency!
In the kitchen, efficiency is a metric between 1% and 100% that’s calculated on both ingredient and energy usage. In order to reach the glorious upper echelons of 80% - 100% you’ll need to use the exact amount of ingredients and as little energy as possible to finisher all of your customer’s orders. Contracts Mode is a different story, some of the more challenging contracts will offer greater rewards the higher your efficiency percentage. After all, what clients would want to buy a wasteful kitchen!?
Tips for the top!
Use the minimum amount of machines There’s little point in having overly long conveyer belts snaking around the kitchen when a more compact layout would normally be more efficient. We do concede that having a giant conveyer belt is pretty cool though. If you’re not using it, turn it off You can dramatically reduce your energy waste by only turning high-power machines on when they’re needed. Why have a 3,000 watt electric grill running when there’s no burgers on it?! If your kitchen isn’t overly busy you can even set machines into a ‘power saving mode’ to be even more economical! Just don’t forget to turn that mode off when things get busy… Only dispense the ingredients that are needed Time to become best friends with your Order Readers! These fine machines can be commanded to only spawn new ingredients when an order is placed, rather than rapid firing out cheese every two seconds. The timing of your dispensers is key here. Making sure they line up with your ingredient ratios used in a given recipe is a very good idea. One example of this is preparing a meal that required two slices of bread but only one tomato, in this case you’d need to set up a ‘time between ingredients’ so that the tomato dispenser is twice that of the bread slice dispenser. Go forth and be thrifty! That wraps up our introduction to efficiency in Automachef. We hope this helps you make the finest energy saving kitchens the land of fast food has ever seen! But if you do want to make a monstrous spaghetti like conveyer belt now and again, we really don’t blame you as it is rather fun.
