Automachef

Welcome to Automachef, a resource management puzzler where you design kitchens, program machinery and watch your genius come to life! It’s time to engineer tomorrow’s kitchen, today!

Hello fellow humans, Welcome to our very first Kitchen Confidential post! We’ll be posting these on a weekly basis to give you a behind the counter look at all things Automachef, from key gameplay features and mechanics, to individual machines and more! To kick things off we’re taking a look at what can go wrong in your kitchens and the various machines at your disposal to tackle any issues that arise…
Kitchen Nightmares
Despite your best laid plans bad things can still happen to your kitchen, sorry! What could happen depends on the environments and circumstances that you’re playing under - so keep that in mind. When disaster strikes it’ll fall into one of three categories:

Fires
Machine Breakdowns
Infestations
Whilst there are disaster-response machines available for you to install in your kitchen, a more efficient approach is trying to adopt a prevention over cure kitchen layout when possible.
Fires
Fires will erupt in your kitchen if you allow food to remain on a Grill or in a Fryer for too long without being picked up. Naturally, this is bad not only for your machine but also for the quality of your food - but it doesn’t stop there, unless extinguished the fire will spread through adjacent machines and ravage your whole kitchen. Luckily for you, there’s two options for combating fires: 1. The Sprinkler - Inexpensive and covers a wide area, but ruins any food affected by it. 2. Extinguisher Robot Arm - Expensive but doesn’t ruin food, but only has a 1 tile range.
Machine Breakdowns
Breakdowns occur when you put your machines under too much strain in a short space of time. This is done by manually increasing the machine’s output to high-speed or overloading its capacity. Once a machine breaks down it won’t start again unless it’s repaired, this is achieved by placing a Mechanic machine in close proximity to any machines that you feel could breakdown during a particularly busy kitchen period. A careful balance when it comes to machine speeds and load will help stop breakdowns, but having a backup is never a bad idea!
Infestations
Leaving your food stationary in the kitchen for too long will attract some unwanted guests… Insects will be attracted to your not so fast food and begin to spread through your kitchen looking for food to sink their teeth into. Even ingredients and completed dishes kept in a Storage Unit are fair game for insect attack, but there’s a lower chance that they’ll discover them. To avoid a visit from insects, always keep your dishes moving and don’t let them stack up anywhere for longer than absolutely necessary.
