Dev Update 2024-09-13

To start off this week's dev update we are happy to announce that we are going to Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki at the start of October. [img]{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/3d937ff5189b70cf17c751c9c83994b08256266a.png[/img] So for the development this week we have focused on a couple of different things; we have added save and load systems, we have reworked and rebalanced many colors, and the UI for the player in game has been significantly improved. Regarding the Save and Load system we have added a new currency, Petrified Pigment, that is saved both between runs and between play sessions. When you unlock a new spell bottle it is now saved. You now also do not need to replay the tutorial each time you reboot the game. However, this save and load system is limited. The game is still a roguelike game, meaning that we do not save any progress within a run. We also feel that it is important to mention that because this game is still in closed beta we might reset save files in future updates, this will however not happen after game release. It was in both our opinion, and the opinion of many playtesters that these two colors were rather boring to use because they were not that interesting and to use them effectively it forced the player to wait. Orange color is now a lot more fast burning, with high damage up front but it fades away quickly. To make it more interesting it now also increases damage each time it spreads to a new enemy. Green color on the other hand deals very little poison damage at first, but to balance it poisoned enemies have significantly reduced attack damage. The twist with the green color is that each time a poisoned enemy dies the remaining poison jumps to an enemy nearby and doubles its poison damage. This encourages the player to focus poisoned enemies to kill poisoned enemies as fast to be able to spread the poison through as many enemies as possible before it runs out. Some general balance and smaller changes have also been done to most other colors. This rearrangement was done to make it easier for players to notice what color they currently have selected and how to change the bottle.
