Hunt through the wastelands for colossal Beasts in this roguelike deckbuilder. Beware! Beasts grow stronger during battle, allowing them to consume your creatures or counter your spells. Carve profane Gifts from these behemoths and grow stronger to serve your Patron! But serve them to what end?
Hey everyone!
Three years ago I was pacing the cul-de-sac of an unexceptional suburban town in the southern United States, not far from where uranium was first refined, trying to come up with a name for a company. The name could be in use for quite a long time, so it was a bit like deciding on a tattoo. The one thing I knew for sure was that we wanted to play in the space between games-for-fun and games-for-art. We wanted to shock and ask questions, but also to make something that slipped you into the warm sea of digital dopamine that is video games. So the image of a macabre-toned children’s toy became a mascot for this intrepid little five person team.

Acolyte of the Altar is our debut creation under this vision. It’s a game about the nature of needlessly killing things, disguised as a perfectly ordinary card game. One inspired by everything from huddling excitedly and shrimp-backed over our childhood Magic decks, to the competitive ladders of most of today’s multiplayer CCGs. But also by some of my favorite books, films, and of course other games. It was made possible through tremendous and tireless support of friends and family, as well as the help of content creators and Discord community members who have helped us polish this game from a wonky lump of minerals into quite a smooth and shiny gem.
If you are reading these words, thank you for finding us! I appreciate each person we run into, because we have exerted great effort to reach out upward into the mist and grab hold of solid stone. In what will forever be one of the most badass stunts toward this end, our social media manager even took to the streets of LA with a cryptic sign reading “SLAY THE BEASTS” and converted random passersby to the cause. Speaking of strangers, this team is unusual in that it was created entirely from people who did not know each other beforehand. So, cheers to whatever stroke of luck allowed us to form such an exceptional group of tip-top talent from the vast untamed jungles of the internet. The team’s dedication and trust that this project would be worth choosing to complete was truly invaluable. Your game is only as strong as the weakest component, and I am lucky to have no idea where to lay that burden.
So, players, thank you for following this journey, or if you are new, welcome and we hope you enjoy summoning some cool creatures and firing off some spells with us. We’ll see you all tomorrow, March 25th. We’re very excited about Acolyte of the Altar and it’s been an honor to get to create and have fun alongside you.
