Welcome back, pirates!
Today, we’re back with another update, just in time for Pirates vs Ninjas Fest!
In this post we’ll be looking at how to build a fleet in Republic of Pirates, providing an overview of the shipyard, shipbuilding materials, ship classes and customisation.
PLEASE NOTE: While we are still working on the game, some of the terms, names, and quantities outlined below may be subject to change!
The Open Seas: Why Your Fleet Matters
A pirate is nothing without their vessel, and in both campaign and freeplay mode, a strong fleet will be essential for expanding your influence across the archipelago and completing important quest objectives. Once you have a few ships under your command, you can strike out in search of loot and flotsam, engage in real-time naval combat with your rivals, conquer neighbouring islands, and defend your shores against enemy raids.
The Shipyard: It All Starts Here
The shipyard building is the epicentre of fleet construction. Place it on any available shoreline belonging to your island(s) to get started. Within the shipyard building UI, you’ll be able to select the ship class of your choice, assign it a captain you have recruited, customise its cosmetics through unlocked sail and hull patterns, and begin construction.
A Fleet in the Making: Shipbuilding Materials
As you progress through Republic of Pirates, you’ll unlock eight different ship classes which, due to their varying size and power, will require different materials in order to be constructed. Four out of the eight hull classes make use of resources that you can supply using the production buildings within your own settlements, while the others require materials that are looted from destroyed enemy vessels.

We have created an overview to give you an idea of the variety of materials you’ll need to start building below:
Shipshape and Bristol Fashion: An Overview of Ship Classes
As mentioned, you’ll have a total of eight ship classes which you will be able to build once you have gathered the necessary materials.

If you’re looking to build the top tier Galleon and Man-Of-war you’ll also need an additional building in the form of the advanced shipyard, so make sure you plan ahead!

All ships vary in appearance and stats so you can experiment with different combinations and develop new compositions to suit your strategy.
We’ll give you a brief overview of six of the eight ship classes while the remaining two tiers, are still being implemented.
Cog: The cog is the first ship you’ll build as you begin your pirate adventure. Although the cog represents the lowest ship tier, compared to the other ships in the shipyard, its maintenance cost and construction time are significantly lower.

Ketch: The ketch is the first ship you will need to outsource materials for but with its upgraded speed, firepower, and health the additional effort will be worth it.

Firepower: 78, Speed: 7, Reload time: 2, Health: 1040, Range: 34 (Maintenance cost: 15 Gold)
Barque: As a big step up from the first two tiers, the barque comes with more than double the health and almost twice the firepower of the ketch. This class can now lead your fleet and is perfect for targeting larger enemy ships.

Brigantine: Upgrade your fleet by building a brigantine. With increased firepower, speed, and range, this ship class is perfect for laying siege to rival islands.
Flying Your Flag: Customisation Options
Customise your fleet to your heart’s desire! Unlock over 30 hull colours, sail patterns and insignia by completing missions and subjugating your rivals.
Do you prefer a uniform fleet or a mix-and-match of patterns and colours? Choose your favourite ship designs in the shipyard! It's worth noting that all customisation options in the shipyard are entirely unique and cannot be found on any other ships but yours!
Command Your Crew: Assigning a Captain
Scour your islands for a captain’s meeting spot and construct a captain’s inn to begin attracting and recruiting veteran sailors to your cause. Remember, every ship must have its own captain so pay attention to their starting level, skills, and recruitment costs before you assign them. Depending on the difficulty setting, the number of recruitable captains will vary, and you can check the maximum available capacity at the captain’s inn.

Changed your mind about a ship’s design? Once unlocked, head over to the ship repainter building to change cosmetic options for ships that have already been built!
Simply place the ship repainter on a shoreline and move your ship within range to change its hull colour, sail patterns and insignia in exchange for a few gold coins.
