HAPPY BONES INFERNAL DETAILS REVEAL!

Happy Bones

After receiving a message from her father who has been missing for the last 4 years, Laura heads out to a house located inside a cult compound to search for her parents, and the truth.
Welcome to the Happy Bones Infernal Details Reveal!

What it is, what it's all about, what to expect!

You're going to like it, promise.
So it's been a hot minute since we talked about the next installment in the Happy Bones series, as I was focusing on the DLC for Happy Bones(1) and making sure your experience with that was as fantastic as it could be! I'm happy to say that from your responses it seems that you've enjoyed it so far and that is the greatest holiday gift that I could ever possibly receive! So now we get to have some fun and talk about where we're going next! I wasn't sure quite where to start with this whole ordeal, but thankfully the lot of you have asked me more than enough questions about it so I'm going to just knock out some FAQ's in an order that makes sense :)!
So let's have at it!
Happy Bones Infernal is a direct sequel of the first game so far as events are concerned, so Laura will be off doing what she was doing at the end of the first game. That being said... If you never played the first game, this is a great starting point as you won't have to have beaten the first game to understand what's going on in Happy Bones Infernal. The story in Infernal stands alone while also building on the foundation of the first game and it's DLC! So to put it simply: If you haven't played the first Happy Bones, you're still going to love Happy Bones Infernal. And if you did play the first Happy Bones, you're going to go nuts over some familiar sights found in Infernal. Happy Bones Infernal will mostly follow a new group of characters! Time to formally introduce Infernal's leading protagonist:
Whoops, sorry! Roan wasn't quite ready for his grand reveal... Let's get him changed into something a little more appropriate...

Much better!

CALM DOWN CORPSE HYDRA HEAD C, GIVE ME A CHANCE TO EXPLAIN HERE.
Roan is a young man who is involved in a criminal incident returning home one day, while he essentially does the right thing, he's found guilty by the justice system. Due to his affluent upbringing his father is able to pull some strings so he doesn't go to prison and instead is sent to an experimental reform academy for adults. Which becomes the setting that we'll find ourselves in when playing this particular game! I'd never forget about the rest of you! You're what really set this game apart from the first one! Naturally upon Roan's arrival at the academy he meets others that have been sent there for unsavory behavior, and quickly finds a common ground with them! In Happy Bones(1), Laura was alone the entirety of the game. Alone, outmatched, and outnumbered against many indescribable evils. Solely to reunite with her parents and find out what was truly going on. This playstyle clicked really well with players who wanted a simple RPG at face value, with one character to really get invested in. In Happy Bones Infernal you'll play as a group of people working together to survive, learning about each other's pasts, about each other's fears... They argue, they fall in love, they grieve together. You'll see human desperation unfolding before your eyes. Infernal is a story of survival. It's truly much more of a narrative experience than the first game could ever be.
Well obviously the game looks a whole lot different than the top down 2D view of the first game.
Going 3D with this particular game really opened the doors to be able to provide player's looking for a game with exploration and puzzles a better experience than the first game. Happy Bones(1) was unique in the fact that every screen was hand drawn. While Happy Bones Infernal clearly can't take advantage of it's environments being hand drawn, it takes advantage of the new 3D space it finds itself in and turns it up to 11. Compared to the first game, Infernal is absolutely massive. The 3D environments are larger, more fleshed out, and generally provide a different experience than the first game. Climb a mountain, find a rift, go into the rift, climb another mountain, kill some demons, go explore the academy, walk through the woods, find some secrets. There's a lot to see. And if you're thinking you're going to miss all the cool spots from the first game... Maybe you won't have to worry about that ;)
Along with new enemy's in general, comes a new enemy mechanic!
Shining enemies! I know, I feel like we should be trying to capture them right? For every single enemy in the game there is a shiny variant that has a 10% chance to appear instead of the standard one. Not only do they look different, but they pack a serious punch.
You can generally expect a shining enemy to have the following: - 3 x HP - Increased critical hit ratio - Higher defense - Expanded ability pool - Higher block ratio - 3 x Coins dropped - 3 x Rare loot dropped - 3 x Exp gained - Drops a shiny coin!
Shiny coins can be used to open some secret passages throughout the game. Of course you always have the option to just run away from a shining enemy, but why would you ever want to do that?
"Didn't we already have achievements?"
Steam Achievements were in the first game, in Happy Bones Infernal there is an in-game achievement system that works the same way, you do something cool, you get an achievement ribbon for it like the one's seen above! You'll also be able to look at them all in a nice collection! This will ensure that those who are playing on a system or console that doesn't support achievements will still get the same instant satisfaction and serotonin rush that the rest of us get :)!
Aah, I see you're a man of class as well Axe Demon, I too have been charmed by the allure of the Devourer's large luscious tongue.

But...NO.
The relationship system adds just another level of replayability to the game! At the end of each Chapter (There's 8) you'll be able to choose a character to spend extra time with. This increases your bond with that character, and grants Roan a skill or an item specific to that chapter and that character. Yeah, it's pretty deep. For instance if you choose to spend time with Hilda at the end of Chapter 1, Roan obtains the skill 'Hilda's Favor' which is a self-heal that is based off his attack power. Whereas if you spend time with Izz at the end of Chapter 1, Roan obtains the 'Stunner' skill, a strike with a chance to stun. Both are beneficial, and only one can be chosen per playthough. It's truly up to you, I'm not going to go into too much detail on this because there's a lot of really fun sequences that I would rather be a surprise for all of you! Maybe you want to perform what I call an "Antisocial Playthrough" which is where instead of spending time with anyone every night you just instead go to bed. Seriously, it's an option! Going to bed raises Roan's Max HP by +25 every time you do it, so you stand to have an extra +200 Max HP by the end of the game if you did that, but then you'd miss out on all the awesome dialog and event flags that come from spending time with a character. Play your cards right and you even have the option to romance some of them! This time around they've been considerably improved and are more exciting as you get some reel-spinning action! There's a new mini-game called Three Card Monte where you have a chance to choose the Queen from 3 face-down cards in order to win Coins!
And...Trading Cards!
You'll have a book where you can see all the trading cards you've collected, and you always have the option to look at the ones you've collected in your inventory! You'll notice that one shown in the .gif there is illustrated by this community's very own Gatosa! This is my way of celebrating you all!
