Hello, SacriFire Community!
I’m the Baaaaad Guy
In our last update we spoke about three of SacriFire’s heroes, so it’s only fair that this time around we shine the devlog spotlight onto three of our early-game villains. While many of Ezekiel’s enemies will be demonic in nature, our young hero will also be pitted against more than a few humans (of questionable morality) during his journey, and those are the bad guys we’ll be focusing on for the purposes of today’s post. Let’s get wicked!
(Mild spoilers for the first section of SacriFire will follow.)
Lord Ducane
“The Wealthiest Man in Antioch”. Lord Ducane owns the mines which provide Antioch with much of its tenebrium, and rules over the affluent district of Opus Peaks. He has a reputation of being miserly and proud, but few have ever met him in person — the tycoon lives in a manor surrounded by vast grounds filled with patrolling guards and zahne (Antioch’s answer to velociraptors).
The reclusive Lord Ducane rarely ventures outside, but when he and his children become central figures in a Church investigation into a missing artefact, he is reluctantly forced to grant an audience to a certain bishop you may all be familiar with: Ezekiel Ridan.
Rowan Allec
Every megalomaniac needs a henchman, and that’s where Rowan Allec - captain of Lord Ducane’s household guards – comes in. An expert fighter with sword and lance, Rowan rose quickly through the ranks of the Ducane standing army to arrive at his current, prestigious position, despite rumors of cruelty, sadism, and possible insanity.
Rowan takes an instant dislike to Ezekiel when the two of them first meet, during Ezekiel’s investigation into the Ducane household. As SacriFire progresses and the two of them cross paths more frequently, the tension rises, and it seems inevitable that one day there will be a reckoning...
Silk
Ezekiel won’t be spending all his time in Opus Peaks. Silk is the de facto ruler of the poverty-stricken area known as the Barrows, but she’s no noblewoman; she’s the leader of a criminal gang known as ‘The White Paw’. Rumor has it that Silk became leader of her gang by killing her own father in order to seize control. She does not discourage the rumor, but has gone so far as to say that if it is true, she believes he would have approved.
Ezekiel and some of his companions find themselves in Silk’s clutches after they are forced to navigate Antioch’s criminal underworld during their investigation, and soon discover that the dungeons of the White Paw are dark and deep — and there are many secrets within.
And more?
Antioch has more than its fair share of evildoers, and we’ve only just scratched the surface here. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed the sneak peek, because next update we’ll be getting even eviler! Ezekiel’s going to have his work cut out for him...
As always, we’d like to thank you for reading our devlogs, and for your continued support of SacriFire. We’ll be back with another update next month!
