We have a new patch out that should address some of the reported issues.
Here's a list of all the fixes, changes and additions coming with [b]0.9.40p[/b]:

[*] Fixed an issue with NPCs disappearing. This was caused by them falling waaay down under the ground. They should now respawn on the ground!
[*] You will get the correct treasure map from Aiyana (should be backward compatible)
[*] New hairstyles, dresses and rosy cheeks in the character creator
[*] Localization fixes
[*] Correct references to quest locations
