If you've played the Steam Game Festival demo, you've no doubt seen the new Quazadrome arena in action. Here's a look behind the scenes on how is was designed.
First, sketches were produced to capture the 1950s retro-robotics theme we were after:

Sketches of the spinning droids which feature in the gameplay were also produced:

Next, colour drafts of the arena were produced:

Then, the first pass render was created:

Aside from the spinning droids, gameplay contraptions in Quazadrome include speed strips and gravity spots.
