It's that time of the year, the content update time!
Warrior, Tinkerer, and Mage are each receiving 15 new cards. And a new mechanic to match! Generally speaking, new cards offer more ways of interacting with frozen, stunned, and sometimes even immune monsters.
The Warrior
Always keen on expanding his collection of things that cut Warrior acquired some Jis. Ji is a Chinese polearm of unique design. As expected from a long-reaching weapon Jis can be used to either reach far away enemies or move them around the battlefield. New cards also add more interactions with enemy status mechanics like stun, frozen, and immune.
Here are three examples out of fifteen new Warrior's cards:
The Mage
Undead are not known for their conversational skills. The Mage got bored and cracked his travel bookshelf. His newly added cards work around the Book tag. Book cards can be studied by playing them. The caveat is that they consume all of your mana when played, and their study counter is decreased by the amount consumed. Once their Study counter is at zero they become zero-cost cards offering powerful buffs for you and sometimes to the whole party.
Another neat part is that they return to the draw pile!
The Tinkerer
Inspired by Rogue's bombs Tinkerer designed a plethora of mechanical traps. Cards with the Trap tag are activated by monsters' movement, turn phases or other cards. These inventions should help Tinkerer to control the battlefield better.
Free Weekend and Bruja DLC
This Thursday we will be launching Bruja DLC. To celebrate this and fill those public lobbies we will be hosting a Free Weekend on Steam. It will go hand in hand with the highest discount yet: 40% off for the base game. There wasn't a better time to drag your friends into Hellcard, they will be able to try the full game until the Free Weekend ends.
As for the Bruja DLC: it brings in a whole new class along with 100 new cards, new mechanics, outfits, artifacts, and class location.
Bruja, an ancient blood witch with a past shrouded in the fog of history, is an expert at balancing divine grace and retribution. Her goals and motivations are unclear, but her power is too great not to invite her to the party.
What's important is that Bruja will also be available to everyone as a companion in the single-player, regardless of DLC ownership. And, of course, she is included in the Supporter Pack.
So what's next?
Once we iron out any bugs or wrinkles in new cards (let's face it, someone will find a way to break the game with them ːArchduckː) we will add more monsters. And then the focus will be on modding support. We already have some groundwork done and we know modding is feasible. It won't allow for total conversions or completely new base mechanics but adding new cards, classes, outfits and such should work just fine.
