Broken Psyche Devlog #5

Broken Psyche

Play as a detective investigating his wife's disappearance. Suspecting the asylum she was researching, he infiltrates it, only to uncover a realm of horror. Solve puzzles, maintain sanity, and confront monsters as you unravel the asylum's secrets.

July 28th is when the first demo for Broken Psyche will be live on both Steam and itch.io. There that's all you probably came for. There was a lot of work I needed to get done this week (mainly bug fixes) but I am in a confident state right now and will have a playable demo for the 28th of July. A big challenge this week was definitely getting the save games to work properly. Saving the players position and simple stats were easy enough, but I really am trying to implement a dynamic save and load system into Broken Psyche. You most likely will not see a lot of the big features of the save system as my plans for it are a lot more ambitious than I originally intended. As for now, here is how the load system will look like, and some stats you can see on the load game screen: Getting Unreal Engine to properly screenshot the screen to save as a thumbnail image was probably the most frustrating part this week. But I did finally manage to get it to work, and am very happy with how it turned out. There were also plans to rename each of your save games but that idea was scrapped because I don't really see a point in it anymore. Something that I also spent time doing was improving the environment of the entire game. One big change I did was add a water pipe system where you can see the water pipes in the levels. This not only added to the level design, but I also got some creative ideas to have the water pipes effect the levels and game mechanically. I didn't really care for the realism aspect, as the pipes would probably not be visible, but I think it really adds to the decrepit and scuffed look an asylum would probably have. I also think it adds to the claustrophobia to further intimidate the player. Hope you're looking forward to the demo as much as I am, and I really hope you give it a try, as it will probably be the MOST important demo I will ever make for Broken Psyche. Tell your friends, family, pets, I don't care who, just make sure you download it when it comes out! Special thanks once again for the support, and have a great weekend1
