In this week's devlog we take a closer look at another very important element of our game: Quick Time Events (aka QTEs).
As already widely anticipated in the past episodes, QTEs are a very important part of the gameplay of Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare, as their implementation was conceived to introduce into the game moments of frenzy that could diversify the classic point-and-click graphic adventure gameplay.
There are a large number of QTEs in the world of video games; most of them are based on precision, timing and the repetition of a certain action in a short time frame. Knowing this, we thought we'd include in Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare the ones that we think are most in line with the goal we have and the kind of experience we want to give players.
Today we are presenting three of the Quick Time Events you will find in Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare.
Please note: the text you'll see on the screen is in Italian, but the game will obviously be localised in the final version.
The first QTE we present is Time Pressure.

During some dialogues, the player has to be reactive in choosing a certain answer in a certain amount of time. The challenge for the player is to evaluate and provide the answer that is considered the most correct among those proposed in the time window available.
The second QTE is the button Hold.

The difference with Time Pressure is obvious: in Button Hold you have to hold down a single button for a predefined period of time.
The last QTE presented is the classic button Mash.

By pressing a given button multiple times in a predefined amount of time, we fill an indicator that implicitly defines the number of times the button will be pressed. It works particularly well when we want to recreate the fatigue of certain actions such as, for example, freeing a jeep from the muddy ground in which it was bogged down.
Interesting, isn't it?
About the Demo: there are still a few days left to complete it and once it's closed we'll let director Ruggero Deodato try it out: so expect some tasty news about it.
See you next time!
