Good morning, afternoon and evening everyone!
Hello! Hello! This week's development update is baked and ready to be shared! Today it is our programmers time to share some of their development and what has been done. We also would like to introduce a new talented member into the team!
Shall we begin?
Polishing Dragon Customisation System~
Hatchet has been working on further work with the skin customisation system for the dragons. It now includes support for multiple swatches, hues and value sliders: this means that you can pick and colour different areas and patterns of the body and change the saturation and brightness of the said colours. We are also currently adding and testing the limitations set to prevent albinism and melanism from being produced on skins that are not pigment mutations.
The dragon skin customisation now works with all dragons: Vulgan, Icy Crown and Kirin! All have one (1) fully functional customisation skin and we will be working on to adding more in the near future.
Implemented the Overhaul Ability System!
Some more polishing has been done for the modular combat system set for dragons. The new melee attacks have been implemented with the new ability system, though beware that we have not yet enabled elemental attacks as they are still a work in progress. We are also balancing and adjusting combat related damage input.
We are also going to be introducing new forms of receiving damage outside of combat. Beware the next time you jump off cliffs will you?
UPDATED Animations and More!
SadEch has finished updating some of Icy Crown's animations and given them some much needed upgrades. We have heard our community feedback and given a little bit more weight and respectable "cleaning". Plus a few small updates to our animation system to make the animations blend way better. No more of those pesky dislocating frames and body parts!
HUMAN Gameplay Overhaul~
Fenrir on the other than has been starting to work overhauling the human game play for the tech demo. There has been made changes to the first-person camera to make it look and feel better, as in the past the camera sensitivity did cause discomfort for some of our testers. The old code has begun to be replaced with new, more modular and hopefully more performant code. Started integrating new assets into existing blueprints and replacing old human animations with new improved animation packs.
What has our senior programmer been up to?
Over the past few weeks, I've made good progress in several areas. Our infrastructure improvements are now complete, with Horde, P4, and UGS fully set up and integrated on our new server. This new system has streamlined our build and distribution processes considerably, and ill be migrating core members of the team over the next few days and monitoring server stability. Currently, I'm focusing on finalizing the Epic Online Services integration, which includes implementing Easy Anti-Cheat. As part of this, I've been refactoring our Steamworks implementation to ensure smooth compatibility with EOS, and dropping some older dependencies like SteamCore and FMODStudio. As part of the new EOS integration, I've been working on session hosting and developing an in-game session browser similar to other games, so we can support multiple servers and community hosting. I've also been focusing on performance improvements, conducting rendering optimizations for the client and network performance enhancements for the server, based on profiling of both and by adjusting a lot of our default settings for different actors and blueprints we commonly use.
In the other notes:
. Whole host of bug fixes has been performed both old and new bugs have been squashed.
. We have also added a new (though temporary) app icon!
WORK IN PROGRESS Iron Armour Model Sheets!
Last but not least we would like for you all to welcome our newest member to our development team pebb! This friendly fellow will be creating 3D model sheets to our armour and we must say they are in a gorgeous detail just like our 3D artists want them. These model sheets are created to assist our 3D artists in the final 3D model creation and which speeds up the development pipeline very well.
Here we have a work in progress heavy iron armour 3D model sheets! Chest plate and Leggings (with and without knee covers) are both finished, I want to add a separate sketch for the knuckles on the gloves, otherwise those are finished as well
the helmet still needs a little attention and the boots only need a clean up for the top and below view.
