V0.31 Retrospective

Steel Hunters Alpha Test Playtest

Howdy, Hunters! Spring is taking the reins not only in the Northern hemisphere of the planet Earth but also in our hearts - have you woken up from winter hibernation mode? We, the Steel Hunters team, are heading to the future at full speed preparing exciting updates to make the game enjoyable for our cherished players. But before you learn what we have in store for you in the upcoming game version, let us once again refresh what V0.31 has brought to the game: the introduction of the two brand-new in-game events and the custom-game mode availability for the second and third playtest sessions being its main features. So, fasten your seat belts, we are taking off!
Bounty and Tags Hunting
The two fresh in-battle events were warmly welcomed by the Steel Hunters community. In addition to the 'Legendary Key', 'Bounty Hunter' and 'Tag Hunt' contributed to the diversification of possible battle scenarios in the Arena: one of the three was randomly assigned for each battle. Successful completion of a quest was rewarded with a claimable loot set - an opportunity to get more rewards was especially praised by the players. In the feedback we have collected after the playtest, you told us how much more fun it is to go hunting for a certain enemy, rather than just achieving regular objectives from one game to another. Having to cross the map in pursuit of a prey, meeting other teams on your way, makes you think out of the box: both the parties of 'Bounty Hunter' event might not be fully prepared for the positions they need to take. The aforementioned event is available right after the squads are spawned on the map, enabling players to meet another team early in the match, compared to a standard scenario where players might want to avoid other teams before they come across them at the Extraction Zone. You also liked that a possible claimable reward level could be upgraded, depending on the number of Tags collected from eliminated enemies. Hearing that you feel satisfied both when you collect tags, and when you claim a reward for them, is pure honey to our ears. We created the event to boost player engagement in battle, and we are happy so see that this goal has been reached. As far as it was the first iteration of 'Bounty Hunter' and 'Tag Hunt', we craved to see the negative feedback no less than the positive one. There's a number of things you didn't like too much: some of the UI elements were not clear enough (e.g. the timer in 'Bounty Hunter' was reported to be almost invisible, some of you couldn't find how to claim the reward), you mentioned that from time to time your squad mates were not interested in pursuing the quest main goal. In addition to that 'Bounty Hunter' quest was game-changing for the squads engaged only. Although I gave you only the highlights of player feedback we have gathered, there's much more, and we make sure it all goes safely from you to our development team. Your feedback is food for thought, and we are doing our best to not let you down! Our Game Mode team has already re-worked both the quests to a certain extent. Check a fresh Update Recap that will be issued within a couple of days for an extended description.
"How can I help?"
As our player base continues to grow, we're leveling up the player support to keep pace with our expanding Hunters crew. What does this mean for you?
What's next?
Inviting you to the third playtest session of V0.31 we mentioned that it would be the last chance for you to play with your current account progression. 'Steel Hunters' team have reviewed our approach to progression in the game; since such a reshuffle demanded to start the player journey anew, we made a decision to wipe the progress. Very soon we will announce the release of a fresh 'Steel Hunters' version - V0.32. It will be remarkable in many senses - read Update Recap 0.32, which will be issued soon, to learn more!
