【ToN】Niraya of ■■'s Unique Combustion Simulation

Niraya of ■■

"Niraya of ■■""Niraya of ■■" is a Japanese horror game inspired by the Buddhist beliefs. The game focuses on a unique system where players "avoid" the attacks of various monsters. This, combined with the fear of exploring eerie environments and solving puzzles, is a major draw of the game.

We have started a new series called "Tech of Niraya" to deliver development insights about "Niraya of ■■". In the first installment, we will discuss the fire effects used in the game. [previewyoutube=tbKdQyNqQ7Q;full][/previewyoutube] Some of the fire effects in "Niraya of ■■" are created using our original combustion simulation technology, which allows us to achieve fully three-dimensional flames. Initially, we considered purchasing assets, but most of the fire effects available on the market are sprite-based, commonly seen as flat polygon effects. However, we thought, "Isn't it possible to create truly three-dimensional flames?" and couldn't resist exploring this idea, leading us to develop our own unique combustion simulation. Despite its appearance, this simulation has a relatively low processing load. Moreover, the frequency of calculations can be adjusted based on distance, making it easy to control performance. We spent some time testing this simulation, but I believe the cost was worth it. If the opportunity arises, I'd like to write a more detailed article on how we created it. As a side note, the game currently has a high overall rendering load for other reasons as well. We'll share more about that in the future. Director: Yuya Yamaguchi
