Even worse, the Winter of Despair sent harsh frosts that reached even the southern nations. Harvests failed and food shortages ensued. Restoring magic seemed like the only hope for humanity’s survival. A few surviving mages then discovered that they could draw limited amounts of power from mana crystals. Magic was partially restored – to those who could afford the crystals. However, individual crystals could not begin to solve worldwide cold and hunger.
