Hey all! It's been a while. Echoes of Karma had a rough development period after release, but we're back in full force with a complete overhaul of the game! So, what's changing?
First off: The entire game is getting re-sprited. You can look at the Echoes of Karma Twitter account for more details on that (we're not calling it X). https://mobile.twitter.com/echoesofkarma
We're updating every cutscene to have more animations, every character has had their sprite reworked, most bosses and enemies are having their sprites reworked, and so much more!
Items: The roadmap previously stated we're doing an items update. We intend to keep that promise and fully stock the shop! This gives the items shop a total of 21 items. 13 items you can equip, 7 you can use in battle, and 1 special item that remains active so long as it's not used, but can be rebought. We won't spoil what they do here. We also start you off with more Junk (the in game currency) during a first playthrough.
Extras Mode: We've added an extras mode to the game. This gives you access to the shop and equip menu without having to access them in an episode. You also have the "Menu Config", which lets you customize your battle menu to have things in any order you want and lets you store unwanted abilities. We also have more extra modes we're not ready to discuss.
Enemies and Bosses buffed: Some enemies and bosses in the game have been buffed. Attacks now deal even more damage or are even more difficult to block. The 6th boss is having it's attacks updated to be more difficult and is being given an additional 3 attacks.
Q&A time|
Why did this take so long?: The team for Echoes of Karma was small, and usually worked commission based. Furthermore, we didn't properly market the game upon it's first release as we didn't have the resources. After that, many of the team members had personal lives to get back to and new projects to attend. Some team members have regrouped, but the team is now much smaller than before and we have no current musician. In spite of that, we think this new release will prove to be very successful, thanks to the dedication of a new full time pixel artist and the improved precision & speed of our programmer.
What does this mean for save files?: We had to redo the entire game from scratch since April. Our previous engine wasn't meeting our standards in terms of ease of development and player customization. Thus, you previous save file will not be compatible. You will have to replay the game. We think this is a good thing, as the changes we've made to the game make it much more enjoyable, and we think it's worth replaying to see how much better it look and how much harder the game is. We've also given it some slight dialogue and story updates.
When will this release?: When it's ready... But we're hoping some time between September and February. We apologize for the lengthy wait, but we wanted to make the game feels perfect since we're having a much bigger marketing push soon.
Will there be a new episode?: No, but we'll be working on the next episode shortly after this update.
Will there be other non episode related updates?: We don't know for sure, it depends on how much we get done. We'd like to update some of the music in the game, but we don't know if that'll be before the final episode is completed or after. Furthermore, we don't know how much of our current plans will be finished by the time the Redux Update releases. We'd like to get every feature and ability in the game done first before releasing the update, but we may delay some features and adding in more abilities until after the next episode is released.
Why has the price increased?: This is to reflect the base price the game was supposed to be at after episode 12 was released. We'll be putting the game on sale frequently to reflect the fact that it's not fully updated, but those sales will slow down drastically after episode 12 is finished, and will usually only be available during holidays or anniversaries.
Thank you to everyone who originally bought the game, thank you to all the developers that were previous working on the game, thank you to everyone who read this, and thank you to everyone who was so patient with us while we regrouped! We hope to see you very soon.
