M.O.O.D.S., aka Mechanical Organisms on Destructive Substances. It is a top-down roguelike twin-stick shooter where you fight crazed robots with futuristic guns equipped with switchable addin modifications. A long time ago, humans left the Earth, and to become more like their creators, mechs implanted themselves with an Emotion Module to feel the moods people had experienced. It did not go well.
Main Gameplay:
[olist]
[*] The main innovative part of the gameplay is short talks with Bosses before the battle. In games like Hades or Tiny Rogue boss dialogue is an essential part of world-building. But in M.O.O.D.S., the emotion you choose to answer with will affect how your next boss battle will go. Valery will be weakened by a sad or lovable answer, but she will add cryo to her bullets if your answer is fired with anger.
[*] Addins modifications are another curious addition. You can switch them at any time between the two weapons you carry. Some addins work better with one type of weapons, others will add some interesting effects in general, and some⊠are here just to bring chaos. For example, Acid Puddle Addin that leaves said puddles while bullets fly works best with fast-shooting weapons with many bullets in the magazine, like a Swarm Emitter or Arcblaster. But it is useless with sniper-type weapons. Psst! Never try Glitcher Addin âyou have been warned.
[*] Classes are presented with 5 Emotions: Joy that summons an auto-shooting turret, Pride that covers itself with a reflective shield, Love that charms enemies to fight on your side, Anger that increases your fire rate, and Sorrow with its taunting mech-dog. More curious are the upgrades for the class abilities. Like Angerâs upgrade to prolong ability effect time with each kill, making it an OP skill for otherwise challenging rooms.
[*] M.O.O.D.S. is more than a roguelike survivor-like game. Aside from dungeon-crawler-like maps filled with enemies to shoot, you will find NPCs with quests, secret and challenge rooms, or enemies that run away and drop more cash when killed. There are elements of base-building, where you start in a lame flying junkyard and then build workshops for your NPC friends. Also, there is a shared-screen local co-op to play with friends on Steam or when someone crashes at your place.
