Early Access: V.02: The Food Update

Hello everyone! I hope you're excited for this update as much as we are! This update introduces one of the things that I've wanted in New Day for a while: Food! [h1]( Food )[/h1] Food in New Day is given to your islanders to keep their bellies satisfied. A hungry islander is an unhappy one! How does food work you may ask? ( You can skip this part if you don't wanna read the technical mumbo-jumbo! ) Islanders, upon being created, generate with a random "like" to "dislike" ratio to ingredients based on their personality. For example, evil islanders will hate ingredients a lot more than cheerful islanders would. Islanders can generate with: Most Hated, Hated, Neutral, Loved, Most Loved to ingredients. Once generated, they're here to stay... so no changing your islander's minds! Upon giving a food item to your islander, the game will check the food for the ingredients within it and calculate which ingredients the islanders are neutral, hated, most hated, loved, or most loved towards. They'll be added up or subtracted into a final number, and that final number will determine their outcome of what they think of the food. Eventually, I'd like to add an "Allergy" system to New Day that allows your islanders to be allergic to certain ingredients. Being allergic to ingredients would cause them to automatically lose 2 "final number" points for every ingredient in the meal that they're allergic to. For every ingredient that causes this point loss, it'd add into their "sick meter" and cause them to catch colds more often... or worse! Of course, that's all future content... there's nothing to worry about... yet... Food can be bought within MemoMart and given straight to your islander... or... you can buy a recipe, look at the ingredients to make said food and buy the ingredients in order to play that specific food's cooking minigames. Playing a food's cooking minigames will allow you to get a negative or positive boost on said food depending on how you did in the minigames. This boost will be applied to the islander's opinion of the food if they haven't ate said food before. Wow, THAT was a mouthful. Literally. [h1]( Bait )[/h1] You can now use bait to lower the difficulty of the fishing minigame! Each bait goes up by 5% in how slower your fishing rod spins around the wheel. It... didn't take long to put this into the game. It kind of makes me wonder why I didn't do it sooner... Oh well. At least this means it's now time to work on confessions... I mean... what? Did I say something? Hm. Must've been the wind. [h1]( Quirks )[/h1] You can now give your islanders "Quirks"! Quirks are small details that you can add to your islander to make their personality more defined. Despite only currently having a small amount to choose from, we'll be adding more into future updates. Now that that's out of the way, here's a list of bug-fixes, additions, and quality of life updates for New Day: [h2][ Fixes ][/h2] [list] [*] Fixed a bug that caused islanders memories to duplicate if you give them a new apartment. [*] Fixed a piece of dialogue that showed (islandername) instead of your islander's name when islanders were told no to befriending another islander. [*] Fixed a slight issue where the "leveling up" ringtone can be heard slightly after a few seconds before the happy soundtrack begins to play. [*] Fixed an oversight that would cause islanders to not import properly if they had an apartment value higher than the current count of apartments on the island they were transferred into. You should be able to properly share islander's again with no issues! [*] Fixed an oversight where the button's text would overflow off of the button in the Room Chooser screen if the apartment name was long enough. [*] Fixed a slight oversight that charged you for subscribing your islander to the newspaper instead of charging your islander if they had enough money. [*] Fixed a bug that caused fairies in Card Roulette to spawn on the floor instead of hovering in the air. [*] Optimized Rain and Snow so that the game has less particles to render, therefore allowing more FPS. [*] Fixed the tooltips going off-screen or being squished into the center when the resolution of New Day wasn't at the maximum! [*] Fixed a bug that would softlock the game if you had an outfit on and tried applying a clothing item that contains swatches. [*] Fixed typo in "Cannot Change into Clothes" notification. [*] Removed Fryc. [/list] [h2][ Additions/Improvements ][/h2] [h3]( Islanders )[/h3] [list] [*] Islanders will no longer want to brush another islanders teeth if they're friends with the islander. [*] Islanders will now lose a significant amount of friendship with the islander that complained about their "disgusting breath" before the "Brushing Teeth" minigame. [*] Islanders will no longer dance after the "leveling up" music finishes when they level up. [*] You can now set a catchphrase for your islander to occasionally say when you enter their apartment. [*] Sped up the scroll speed for the screen that allows you to give an islander an apartment. [*] Your islander's apartment windows will now glow if they're awake during the night. [*] Islanders will now have more occurring problems on your island, even without the "Golly Gossipin' Time" Ordinance. [*] You can now tell when your islander has a problem without entering the apartment complex! [*] Lowered the probability to 35% chance of an islander rejecting your advances to solve their problem if they had a low opinion of you. Previously, they had a 50% chance. This was just way too high. [*] Added an "Islander Interaction Wheel" in your islanders apartments. [*] Added "Draw a Picture" into the Islander Interaction Wheel. [*] Added "Resurrect an Islander" into the Islander Interaction Wheel. [*] Added a new dream -- "Infinite Travels" -- to the game. [*] Added a new dream -- "Eating Forever" -- to the game. [*] Removed the islander's ability to blink. This will come back in a future update. [*] Islanders can now develop one-sided friendships with other islanders. [*] Added the ability to call your islanders back to their apartments. [*] Restored an old feature where islanders will sometimes want to randomly say something to you. [*] Added 16 new mouths to the Islander Creator. Some mouths are similar to some old ones we have. [*] Added 32 new eyes to the Islander Creator. [*] Now, if you don't wanna deal with your islander's problem, you can simply punch them in the stomach and it'll go away! [*] Now, you can give your islanders headpats in order to raise their opinion of you! [*] Now, you can also poke your islanders. There's no real benefit to this. You can just poke them. [*] Social Butterfly islanders will now spread negative gossip about you if their opinion of you is low. Every other islander, except Loyal islanders, will spread gossip of you if their opinion is VERY low. This also works the other way around if your islander's opinion of you is high. [*] Added a unique soundtrack for islander's apartments if they're wanting to befriend another islander. [*] Added a unique soundtrack for islander's apartments if they're wanting to unfriend another islander. [*] Added a unique soundtrack for islander's apartments if they're wanting to adopt a baby. [*] Added a new species to the game -- "Alien". Yes, they'll only speak in gibberish. [*] Vampires will now randomly have "bleh bleh" in their sentences. [*] Werewolves will now have random "werewolf-like" words in their sentences. [*] Vampires will now float in the Islander Creator. [/list] [h3]( Knits Shop )[/h3] [list] [*] Added a new "slip-off" t-shirt to Knits Shop. [*] Added a new "buttoned-up sleeveless" t-shirt to Knits Shop. [*] Added a new "Nose of a Squid" accessory to Knits Shop. [*] Added a new "Coffee Cup" Accessory to Knits Shop. [*] Added a new "Sponge" Accessory to Knits Shop. [*] Added 5 swatches to the "Alice Dress" in Knits Shop. [*] Added a "Bribe Knits" option for the player to refresh the Accessory Corner early. This can only be accessed once a day. [/list] [h3]( Room Editor )[/h3] [list] [*] You can now type anything into the Room Editor's name slot! The restrictions have been lifted... again! [*] Upon placing a piece of furniture down for the first time, you'll now be sent into "Edit Mode" for said furniture. [/list] [h3]( Text Editor )[/h3] [list] [*] You can now edit dialogue in the game with the brand-new "Text Editor" that's available on the title screen. [/list] [h3]( Bingo )[/h3] [list] [*] Removed the "LEFT CTRL" button and instead, the "Previously Called" menu will now be active unless you're playing in Roulette Mode. [*] You can now select which 2 islanders will play against each other in "Bingo Roulette". [/list] [h3]( The Docks )[/h3] [list] [*] Added a money counter so that you can tell how much money you have without going back to the island. [*] Updated the Fishing Minigame to be more compatible with Steam Deck users. [*] Added Bait into New Day. [*] Added a new fish to the Fishing Minigame. [*] Fishing is now dependent on the type of bait you have equipped. [*] Appease the Fishdrick or suffer the consequences.
