Dev Log #27: World Building V2 Progress, 3 Years Of Bad Yolk Games & Spotlights

Main Assembly

You’re the designer, engineer and architect if you can imagine it you can create it! Construct robots of any shape or size from eight-legged spider bots to eerie UFO contraptions.

Hi there folks! We are currently working on getting the second iteration of World Building to a releasable state, but there are many components still to sort out. Creating checkpoints with the games logic system seems to be working great even in Dummy World! Developing Main Assembly has been extremely rewarding so far, and we can't wait to get another update out. The process of implementing something into the game and then seeing it used by the community within an instant is both fantastic and scary at the same. Fantastic in the sense of, you're seeing something you made that now has a purpose and scary because it might break and explode or do a weird dance at any second! When we started making Main Assembly, there were so many unknowns. Especially with the internal goals we've set up. For instance, the free-form build system has come a long way since the first iterations. Very early on in the game, we wanted to have dummies to play around with. Before Bad Yolk and Main Assembly, most of us only worked on very violent and bloody games. It feels terrific to create scenarios that don't contain that. But that doesn't mean that it can't look brutally painful sometimes! We are looking forward to the future; there are a lot of things still to come. It feels crazy that it's already been three years since Bad Yolk Games was founded and we started working on Main Assembly. Happy belated birthday to us! We were instantly drawn to this Level with the intense drops and huge spirals, we just had to give it a go. Here is Lemon Listener's description for their Level! A challenging course consisting of constant spirals and loops. Kinda built it just to test out parts. Enjoy and good luck" This track is a long one, but it is fully worth the trip round, if you can make it! Making a speedy start from the start line may not be advised, as you can see below in our clip it may end in doom! We can't show a photo here, due to copyright, but this replica of the Chaparral 2J is amazing! We think it really does capture all of the details, the back vacuum vents, lights and even the "66" numbers are shown in detail too! Here is the story from Owned Pilot from their Workshop description: " Back story: When I read about the regulations of cart racing, I have a bad feeling because there is no rules stating what is allowed to generate downforce. I created a cart that had a lot of aerodynamic downforce and it worked very well. But that cart is not very impactful. Then there comes a track made by adorable which features a huge loop. I had found that my high downforce cart cannot lap the huge loop due to the loss of speed at the top. I then thought, as the rules did not ban propellers, I will create Chaparral 2J which can generate a lot of downforce even when the car is standing still. And then, here it is. I originally thought it would be OP due to the high downforce created by two contra-rotating propellers at the rear. But the original version has no suspension at rear meaning it is basically useless on any tracks with a lot of bumps. I thus decided to build it a working suspension only to find the weight the suspension created slowed the car down dramatically. Any way, this car is balanced and easy to drive now. It may not be as quick as my purpose built cart. But it is competitive as a replica. Hope you enjoy!"
