Midnight Horde is a gothic horror parkour action game with rogue-lite elements where you battle thousands of enemies. Upgrade weapons, fortify castles and towns to keep darkness at bay.
Hello,
This is blog post nr 1 for Midnight Horde and I am happy you have taken the time to check it out.
Midnight Horde is the result of me playing a lot of Vampire Survivors, 20 minutes till dawn and Dead Cells.
The setting is heavily inspired by Mike Mignola and I did get the idea by reading one of his comics and thought that it should be a game. I will also take a lot of inspiration from Blade, Vampire Hunter D and Hellsing.
Midnight horde will be a lightweight platformer in the sense that it will not be a struggle but a tool to kite the enemies. I plan the weapons to be inspired by witch hunter type of weapons, early ww1 weapons and contraptions. These will be similar to 20 minute till dawn and Vampire Survivors with synergy fusing upgrades.
This is the perfect time to give your feedback about what you like or dislike or feature requests. It will be possible to ask during the early access as well but until that is released it will be easier to mold the game in this phase.
One of the first things I want to experiment with and have not nailed is how the castle progression will look like. I have a couple of options that I like:
1. Static upgrade, like a puzzle complete the castle linear progression
2. You get pieces but can place them anywhere.
3. More like a deck builder, a card is a building piece and you could compose new castles based on how many slots they take with some resource restrictions. This could allow you to rebuild and restructure the castle after every fight to fine tune it to your playstyle. The cons of this is that it will be harder to balance and it might look ugly at times and make the player create boring solutions.
One of the more interesting tech I will dig into for this game is flow field pathfinding that I think will create some optimized and interesting movement for the enemies!
I would say this game is in a very early stage and the reason I am publishing this steampage is to keep myself accountable and get early feedback.
Regards
