Kill It With Fire is a first-person action game about hunting spiders and causing collateral damage.
Hello exterminators!
KIWF has now been updated to allow exterminators to solve the community event puzzle on their own. It works exactly the same way: get the blacklight and search for hidden clues in every level except “Down the Spider Hole”. But, rather than report your clues to Discord you’ll just use them on the code grid in the secret bunker. Everyone has their own random code. If you’ve already solved the puzzle, you don’t need to do anything - unless you decide to start a new save file!
Save Files
Over the last couple weeks I’ve heard scattered reports of players losing their save files. I haven’t been able to get to the bottom of the issue, but I have created a way to restore your save. Right click on Kill It With Fire in your Steam library and choose “Properties”. On the menu that appears there should be a field labeled “Launch Options” (If you don’t see it, make sure you’re on the “General” tab). In the “Launch Options” field, enter the following EXACTLY (minus the quotes): “-AutoCompleteLevels X”. Now, replace X with the number of the level you’d like to complete the game through. For example, if you’d like to complete Domestic Duties, replace X with 3. To complete the entire game, replace X with 10.

Once you launch the game, it should automatically adjust your save file to 100% complete those levels. That means beating the level, completing all objectives, unlocking all doors, discovering all equipment/upgrades/batteries/files, and completing the Arachno-Gauntlet. This will only work in the first save slot. Once you’ve restored your save, please close the game and delete what you’ve entered into “Launch Options”.
What else is new?
I’ve adjusted the spider’s AI so they behave much less predictably. Skip to the next paragraph if you’re uninterested in the guts of how KIWF works. Still with me? Great! Previously, the spiders moved at random between a series of “hand placed” points. If you ever killed a huge number of spiders in a small space, you may have picked up on this. The change I’ve made allows spiders to instead choose a random destination around those points within a radius defined by the point (a large radius for a point in the middle of the room, a small radius for a point on top of a shelf, etc). It makes the spiders seem more unpredictable and I love the results. Let me know what you think! Also, if you see any spiders running into walls please let me know so I can sort ‘em out.

I’ve fixed a few other bugs here and there. You shouldn’t be able to get on the mower while using the spider tracker (that crashed the game before - oops!). Also, if you’ve already completed the “Fix Electrical Problem” objective in Major Inconvenience, you should find the door already open next time you load into the level.
I think that wraps it up for now. I hope everyone enjoyed the community event. And, if you missed it, I hope you enjoy the new version of the puzzle! Until next time!
