A Letter from the development team

Sea of Craft

Hello! Captain! “Sea Of Craft” is a sandbox ocean-building game with realistic physics simulation. In “Sea of Craft”, you can build your exclusive ship with hundreds of materials, and explore intriguing stages on planet Beella as well as adventures of wonders in the great ocean!

Ahoy, Sea Captains!I am Chang Mao, the producer of Sea of Craft. First of all, I would like to thank all you Captains who have been supporting us for such a long time. At the same time, a warm welcome to all the new Captains who have made port at the ocean world of Beella. Let’s get ready to sail! After loads of public tests and with the joint efforts of the whole team, the Early Access version of “Sea of Craft” will finally go live on April 28, 2022! I hope that everyone can create their own unique battleships in the game, and enjoy whatever twists and turns your Sea of Craft adventure brings. May the sound of the tides here in the southern seas of Beella bring you peace and joy. https://store.steampowered.com/app/990920/_/ The Early Access release is not the end for our R&D - it is a milestone on a much longer journey to and beyond full release. On top of the core framework we’ve already implemented, we also have plenty of cool features and concepts that we want to share with all Captains via Sea of Craft. In the world of Sea of Craft, Early Access release also signifies the start of the “Sea of Craft Era”. According to our schedule, once the version is stabilized, the world of Beella will usher in the first industrial revolution. Powered parts and weapons driven by new technologies will emerge, and Captains’ goals and concerns in shipbuilding will also change. After release, our priorities will be optimising existing game content and fixing bugs. The growth and improvement of Sea of Craft requires the support of and suggestions from all Captains. If you have any questions about the game, feel free join our Discord channel or post your feedback to our Steam Community and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. We do of course recommend you join the Sea of Craft Discord anyway. You’ll find plenty of likeminded shipmates there. Once the Early Access version is stabilised, we will announce a large-scale Beella timeline as well as a future update plan. Below is the current status and future outlook of each part in Sea of Craft.
Single Player
Currently, we have three chapters available, all of which incorporate guidance and part tutorials into the level objectives. Difficulty and progression pace will increase in future versions and we are committed to designing plenty of intriguing stages with extravagant simulated physics for future content releases. In the future, we will add more stage content by taking the chapter theme as the timeline for updates. What a feeling to be moving from the shallows into the deep end! Here are some demo gifs of future stages that have advanced simulated physics:
Gearset puzzles

Rigid hull puzzles

Driving and wheel physics

Crafting Content
There are 14 advanced building functions and nearly 200 building parts in Sea of Craft. The basic building functions and parts are already available in the EA version. In the future, we will add more parts and advanced building systems to incorporate into the existing framework. THese will provide a huge helping hand to everyone who loves mechanical design.
Parts:
In our R&D plan, parts will be released gradually according to the version theme. For example, advanced steam engines, automation components and pneumatic components will be available together at a pre-defined technological milestone. Core functional parts of different sizes and styles will also be released between major updates.
Functions:
Through our testing endeavours, our vision of gravity functions and buoyancy within Build Mode has been realised. Since the number of buoyancy calculations in Sea of Craft is multiplied by the number of parts, enabling the buoyancy preview function poses a great challenge to hardware performance. Therefore, we are designing a screening and unified processing method to optimize this issue, which will ready for general release following testing on performance metrics. With it’s high-quality simulated physics and advanced building functions, multiplayer gameplay in Sea of Craft will is sure to be an experience of unparalleled depth.
Duel:
There are basic rules for duel and rewards spawning. On this basis, more core combat game modes can be introduced in the future, such as escort and capture the point.
Racing:
The next major update will include amphibious racing in conjunction with renewed water path design. The track design will also be more fantastical, inspired by multiplayer in of GTA V.
No-limits:
The main aim of no-limits multiplayer is to provide a space for demonstration and testing in multiplayer. A land-based no-limits mode will be added once the version is stabilized.
Open Sea
The current Open Sea area includes a PvE combat and development system based on roguelite rules. Captains can liberate strongholds and island villages that have been plundered by Kerry pirates. As a token of their gratitude, the villagers reward you with Gold Coins, which you can use to upgrade your ship.
Combat System:
In the future, more AI and Boss events will be added to the current combat framework to enhance the diversity of combat pace and experience.
Discovery Systems:
Design of the non-combat exploration system has already been completed. This depth feature will be added when the EA version is stabilized.
Map Size:
At present, a 16x16 km sea area has been completed and the 8x8 km map is live and online. The sea area in future will be gradually expanded according to the overall volume of content expected in subsequent releases.
