An itinerant youngster of a caravan escort who uses an exotic rope dart as his signature weapon, Zilan aspires to become a hero of unparalleled prestige. Cast aside in his childhood, he found refuge and tutelage under a master who guided his diligence over the course of years toward an affinity for dartsmanship that borders on the godlike, thereby naturally bridging into his calling as a guardian of caravan convoys as they trekked the multitudinous watercourses, icecaps and mires of the Nine Provinces. Despite his youth, Zilan is a veteran of countless adventures and delights to no end in collating local folktales and supernatural accounts wherever his vocation takes him. Nonetheless, during all-too-few moments of respite, Zilan often finds himself pondering whether - if only from the deepest recesses of his mind - his yearning for exploration was born of a subconscious quest to find the individuals whom he'd never known...
