Hey everyone! I’m back with Update 0.4.2.0 for Roman Legacy: Speed Trials, and we’ve made some fantastic progress I’m excited to share with you! Just for a reminder, I am now using this update formatting: [FullRelease.MajorVersion.MinorVersion.Hotfix]
Key Gameplay Updates

Predictive Animation System: This system lets the character anticipate ledge grabs, making movements feel more responsive.[/*]
Improved movement animation blending, this helps characters move more naturally, smoothly transitioning between directions while maintaining consistent behavior for competitive gameplay experience.[/*]
Enhanced Ledge Grab Mechanics: Even though this mechanic certainly needs more work, it's still quite functional. It adds more dynamic ledge interactions with new animations, and now you can also shimmy left or right. This change creates a more varied and natural feel ("realistic").[/*]
New Cable Slide Feature(Level 13): Completely new mechanic — cable slides! You can now zip between points, making traversal faster and smoother, bringing an extra layer of fluidity to parkour gameplay.[/*]
Level Blockout Inspired by Mirror’s Edge (Level 13): I’ve blocked out the first level inspired by rooftops. While it’s still in its early stages, this level is the perfect testing ground for the new movement and traversal updates.[/*]
Improved Landing System: You can now roll out of a high fall to maintain momentum, or stumble if you miss the timing. This change keeps the flow of movement intact and rewards precise, skillful play.[/*]
Various other small fixes and changes.[/*]
Coming Next
Looking ahead, I’m experimenting with adjusting the movement speed. Currently, it feels a bit too fast to deliver the satisfying experience I’m aiming for. This will require some reworking of existing levels—a change I’m excited to dive into. This tweak should bring focus to high-altitude, rooftop-centric parkour, which I think will greatly enhance the gameplay, but we will see how it turns out!
Stay tuned for the next update post in December, where I’ll share more on this movement speed adjustment experiment and reveal my 2025 development plans for Roman Legacy: Speed Trials. Thanks for your support and feedback, and see you in the next update!
