Hello, art enthusiasts and fans of Wild Planet! Today, we’re thrilled to take you on a visual journey through the artistic process of our game. From early concept sketches to fully realized environments, the art of wild planet plays a pivotal role in creating an immersive and captivating experience. Let’s dive into the creative process that brings our world to life!
Setting the Vision: Early Concept Sketches
The artistic journey of Wild Planet began with a series of concept sketches that laid the foundation for our game's visual identity. Our lead artist, Yilmaz, started by sketching out initial ideas to explore different styles and themes. These early sketches were crucial in helping us define the overall look and feel of the game. We experimented with various color palettes, architectural styles, and character designs to see what resonated the most with our vision. These boards were filled with images, color swatches, and textures that inspired the team. They served as a visual guide, ensuring that everyone was on the same page regarding the game's atmosphere and setting. Our mood boards drew inspiration from a wide array of sources, including classic scifi literature, historical architecture, and natural landscapes. We wanted the game to have a unique blend of the familiar and the fantastical, creating a world that feels both relatable and otherworldly. From lush forests to ancient ruins, each location is meticulously designed to enhance the player’s immersion. Our environment 3D artists Yilmaz & Macéo, draws inspiration from real-world landscapes, blending natural beauty with imaginative elements to bring our game’s settings to life. From the dense, mystical forests to the grand, ancient ruins, every location is designed to be visually interesting.
Lighting and Color: Setting the Mood
Lighting and color play a critical role in establishing the mood of our game. We experimented with different lighting techniques and color schemes to evoke the desired emotions in each scene. Whether it’s the warm glow of a sunset or the eerie shadows of a haunted forest, these elements are essential in immersing players in the game’s atmosphere. Our technical artist, Vlad, worked closely with the rest of the art team to implement dynamic lighting systems that react to the game’s environments and events. This dynamic approach ensures that each moment in the game feels vibrant and alive.
Bringing It All Together: The Final Vision
The artistic direction of Wild Planet is a culmination of our team's hard work, creativity, and passion. From the earliest sketches to the final in-game assets. We’re incredibly proud of the artistic journey that our game has taken, and we hope that you will feel the same sense of wonder and excitement when you explore our world. The art of Wild Planet is what we define as “minimalism” a mix of minimalist 3D shapes with high fidelity VFX and lighting. Our ambition has always been to create games with a strong narrative told through the environment. We want players to feel like they've stumbled upon the remnants of an epic battle, piecing together the story from the world around them. In contrast to the chaos in the world, we aimed to create a colorful, relaxing sci-fi game that offers players a place to unwind. Our core concept revolves around a layered civilization on a random planet. Our artistic vision led us to a low-poly style, which we believe creates clarity through simplicity. We see low-poly as the gaming equivalent of minimalism. As fans of science fiction, we wanted to merge the genre's complexity with low-poly minimalism to offer a fresh perspective. Our goal is to give players the freedom to explore and shape the environment in their own way. By leveraging the strengths of the medium, we aim to create in-game narratives without relying on cut-scenes, dialogue, special effects, or complex interfaces. We embrace minimalism, using simple geometry rendered in high resolution, with flat colors combined with modern shaders featuring specularity and refractions. Good lighting further enhances the visual complexity, proving that simplicity can be stunning.
