Mode System
Drone Sector has two core gameplay systems:

Gunship Combat – This has been the main development focus so far. Based on player feedback, it’s already fun and well-developed.

Ground Troop Command – Still in early stages. Improving it will be a priority soon.
Combining both systems into a single interface would make controls and UI cluttered. There would be too many overlapping elements competing for space, which isn’t ideal for a game like this. It’s not a slow-paced management sim where heavy UI complexity is acceptable.
To solve this, I split these systems into separate modes. With a quick Tab press, you can switch between:

Gunship Mode – Focuses on weapons. Displays gun stats, ammo counts, and impact zones. Fewer UI distractions from ground troops.

Commander Mode – Disables firing and hides the gun info. Displays extra info about squads and objectives. Allows coordinating ground troops. Squads are selected like switching weapons, with different actions for each squad type.
Benefits:

Keeps both gameplay styles streamlined and intuitive.

Prevents accidental friendly fire or unintended troop movements.

Leaves the door open for controller or Steam Deck support.

Localization is Now a Priority
I’ve noticed a surprising amount of Drone Sector’s Steam page traffic is coming from non-English-speaking regions, so I’m prioritizing localization earlier than planned. The first wave of supported languages will include:

Simplified Chinese

Japanese

Korean

Brazilian Portuguese

German

French

Italian

Spanish
Localization comes with challenges—adjusting UI for different text sizes, optimizing font rendering, and ensuring smooth performance—but progress is steady. If there’s a language you’d like to see, let me know in the comments!
