The spark for LEMPO came from using old Finnish folklore of Metsänpeitto as the basis of the story. A magical and dark fantasy world where one might get lost and (almost) never get out. Then the idea started to live and we thought about the core pillars of our game: avoiding major cliches, strong emphasis on storytelling, and an epic atmosphere and mood throughout the story. This is when the idea of using Lempo (the character) was born. Before Christianity had arrived in Finland, in the old Finnish mythology Lempo was, and is, a much kinder version of the god Christians perceived as bad as the Devil itself. We wanted to use the darker version to inspire our version of Lempo... and we wanted to give Her even more powers than she used to have. But the core is still there: she is the goddess of love, fertility, and fire, and at the same time she is also a devourer of worlds—a chaotic and dark force. The character really represents the game.
