Greetings, fellow travelers!
Welcome to our first-ever Dev log for Fur and Fables. We have lots to talk about and share with you, including where we are right now, what we are working on, and what is planned for the future. But before all that, we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has shared their feedback with us and wishlisted the game. We really encourage you to share your feedback with us if you haven't yet, and also share Fur and Fables with your friends. Additionally, in the upcoming weeks, we will share more Dev Logs with you so that you are always aware of where we are at and stay up to date with the game's latest developments. This brings us to today's Dev Log, and we are happily announcing that we have been hard at work, doing our best to implement the feature you requested most: controller support. We are finally announcing that Fur and Fables now supports controllers.🎉 But that's not all that we have today for you. We also want to introduce you to our new leveling system: In the earlier versions of the game, your characters would level up automatically when they gain enough experience. That system “worked” in the sense of allowing players to progress but was somewhat limited and lacking in player agency. We wanted to create a system that would both allow for more control and choices and would make the players more attached to their characters. So now, instead of leveling up automatically, you gather points and use them to select which characters you want to level up and when. These points are dropped by enemies you kill - similar to the way experience points worked before - with more powerful enemies giving you more points. These new points also stay with you between stages, so you can farm for them and gather as many as you need! Now that you have to choose how to upgrade your characters, we hope that players will be more emotionally invested in the choice and in the characters themselves. Would you rather level up a low-level character to help it survive and contribute more to the party? Or will you save all of your points to level up that one character to be super powerful? Both paths are valid but result in different play styles and party compositions. Because the level-up is now selective, that means you will, in general, level up much more slowly. To compensate for this, we modified the bonuses granted by leveling up so that each level grants you more significant bonuses than before. This is a new system that we know isn’t perfectly balanced yet, so we’d really appreciate your feedback! Especially on how fast you think the progression should be, and how powerful it should feel to gain a level. The menu adds another feature that a lot of players have requested for a long time: The option to freely switch places between party members mid-game. You can click on the little arrows in the menu to move a character forward or backward in the line, allowing you to place that fighter you just picked up in the front where he should be and protect your weaker characters by placing them in the middle of the party. It has been nothing but fuel that has made us work harder and harder on the game to meet your expectations. Lastly, if you haven't yet, make sure to wishlist Fur and Fables and share it with your friends and don't forget to join our Discord server.
