Combat - How does it work?

Combat is an essential part of Translunar Enterprises and as a developer I want to encourage people to really wage war on each other or come to another players aid. My core idea is I want the combat to be in as much [b]realtime[/b] as possible and avoid the [b]stacking numbers[/b] that occur in many games. While maintaining the possibility for each player to really develop their own tactics and ship designs to challenge all of you who love to build epic ships that requiers a ten times larger enemy fleet to take down. [h2]For a ship to be constructed[/h2]there are requirements. You have to have access to a ship design via direct ownership or lease. Then there has to be the required materials available at the shipyard where you want to build the ship. After that, you just throw it in the oven(the space oven!) and wait for the ship to be finished. [h2]To make a ship design[/h2]you have to put the required components in the design to make it work. As of now the requirements are an engine, a power system and a hull type. Each component has their unique stats that desides how the final ship will end up. You might have an engine for awesome power which will output a lot of speed for your ship or some effective armor plates that gives your ship excellent defence. (I will go into the details on how components work another time.) [h2]Finally[/h2] you want to put some weapons in your design. There are currently three types of weapons. [h3]Railguns[/h3] - This weapon type will hit hard and fast. This weapon can only be avoided by moving the target ship since the projectiles are not tracking the ship. It is possible to counter this weapon with the CDWS (Close in Defense Weapon System). It tracks incoming missiles and shoots them down with heavy and rapid projectiles. This is the most similar part to other RTS games, you manage your forces and try to eliminate the enemy forces before the they kill your fleet. This is done in realtime.
