We've made no secret about the fact that we really like Battlestar Galactica Deadlock. It's a niche title, to be sure; there aren't that many tactical space combat games out there and not everyone may have seen or even enjoyed the reimagined TV show from 2004 (oh god-ED).
That doesn't change the fact that it's excellent. Two task force-sized collections of ships duke it out in a semi-3D space. Both sides submit their orders at the same time, and gameplay is resolved in 'chunks' of time after which the action pauses so you can issue fresh orders.
But one thing that doesn't get mentioned much is how pretty the game is. The team at Black Lab Games have a history of making games that look really good and feel very atmospheric, sometimes to the detriment of other features. Thankfully Deadlock has managed to improve on its shortcomings since its release in 2017, and it's still just as pretty.
The game's second 'Season' of DLC content kicked off late last year, but as you can imagine the COVID-19 crises has delayed much of the 2020 roll-out plans. Now that things are starting to get back to normal (at least in Black Labs' home of Australia), they're hard at work at the next wave of new features for the game.
