Alpha Roadmap Update #3

[h2]Salutations Industrialists![/h2] I'm excited to share the progress we've made over the last month and update you on our Alpha Roadmap. First, thank you to everyone that has given us their feedback on our latest Dev Diaries. Overall, Gilded Destiny's development is making good progress towards an Alpha Release in the next couple months. We will release the Alpha, "when it's ready," which means, when we are confident that our Alpha-testers can enjoy the game and be able to comment on gameplay and mechanics that they would like to see, without needing to point out things that we already plan to do ourselves. That being said, even once the Alpha is released, we will continue publishing Roadmaps until the release of the full game. So, just because you see "End of August" goals or next month "End of September," don't be discouraged. The Alpha build is coming soon, as is a demo version to be available at Gamescom in August. Currently, the game is playable to a large degree, with some events scripted, military units to be directly controlled, military divisions to be recruited, buildings to be optimized, and roads and railways to be constructed—all of which we hope to show you very soon in our next Dev Diary! Speaking of Dev Diaries, we recently shared an update to our Leaders System and teased some of the new Portraits with the new art style we will be using. As we announced before the Kickstarter, we've had plans to change the portrait artwork for some time now, since the previous portraits simply weren't going to be scalable in terms of the number of historical figures we wanted to represent. The new style has also meant that we can spend more time on getting the features of these leaders as accurate as possible—at least in those cases where there's a reference for us to draw upon. While not one of the milestones listed below, additional portraits are being drawn and finished regularly. And of course, we appreciate your feedback—we are collecting suggestions we have received from our community and will consider them for future development. [h2]Accomplished in June[/h2] [list] [*] [b]Map Rework[/b] The Map Rework began June 11 and is underway. It is likely that the rework will be completed towards the end of July. [*] [b]Content for Military Units[/b] We have begun removing some placeholders and naming Military Units. However, due to other more urgent tasks, this work on this will continue into July. However, this is a screenshot of military units, showing movement (red) and supply (green) arrows, indicating from where logistical support for your troops is coming. It shows some of the progress our team has been making behind the scenes. Keep in mind that [i]the green arrow is just a temporary look[/i] and will soon be replaced by a less conspicuous dashed line. These arrows will typically originate from the nearest city that can supply the troops with supplies. You can also see that we've added new banners for military units, but more on that later. Our plan was to use these important events to test and build out our event system. In the process, we have gathered feedback for our Dev team on how to improve the game Editor and to improve the Events system itself. We expect this process to continue into July with more major Prussian Events and early minor Prussian and other generic events. [*] [b]Add Provincial Data for Prussia[/b] Our Content Design team has completed adding provincial data for Prussia (such as the number of people and the distribution of cultures, and religions), with the exception of Professions, which will require a bit more time to research. [*] [b]Implement the New Diplomacy System[/b] Our programmers prioritized Leaders and Politics, so they will begin inputting the Diplomacy system soon, likely during the first week or so of July. Also, the redesign of the Diplomacy UI is planned soon, so stay tuned for an future update on that! [*] [b]Input the revised and updated Leader System, including new UI and mechanics[/b] Completed! You may have seen our latest Dev Diary, where we showcased the Leader System. In the Dev Diary, we showed the layout of the Leader UI and discussed many of the features. [*] [b]First draft of early Minor Prussian Events and early Generic Events[/b] [*] [b]Finalize the reworked Technology UI design to go with our new Technology system[/b] [*] [b]Input the revised and updated Construction and Building System, including new UI and mechanics[/b] As we prioritized mapmaking before the Map Rework to be done from June 11 to July 10, we moved the input of the Construction and Building System to July. [*] [b]Add Qualities for some Cultures and Religions[/b] to test and refine the Qualities system [*] [b]Refine and update in-game text[/b] in the English and Chinese versions of the game [/list] [h2]End of August[/h2] [list] [*] [b]Attending Gamescom[/b] Aquila Interactive will be attending Gamescom in Cologne Germany from August 21 to 25. We will be showcasing Gilded Destiny and offering a chance for attendees to play a demo of the game. [*] [b]Finalize First Draft of Terrain[/b] As our team will not be able to work on the map in June and most of July, once the Map Rework is completed around the end of June, they will continue with editing terrain. We aim to finish editing altitude, placing terrain features, lakes, and rivers.
