Making sure that as many players as possible can enjoy the game is really important to me. As a solo developer, implementing accessibility features can be challenging. However, that shouldn't be an excuse for missing accessibility features; it's more of a motivation to keep the topic in mind for the future! I want to share with you a sneak peek of the accessibility features I've integrated into the game so far.
The Accessibility-Tab
In the game's settings menu, there will be a dedicated tab for various accessibility options in the future. Let's take a look at the options I've implemented so far! Flickering Lights Players who are sensitive to flickering lights can now disable them completely. However, there are moments in the game where the screen turns black and then reappears. These moments are essential to visually enhance the despawning of intruders. Color-Changing-Anomalies Certain anomalies in the game do color changes, but now you have the option to disable them entirely. This should be helpful for players who have difficulties with color recognition, making it easier to identify anomalies. Mouse-Only Mode In this mode, players can control the core functions of the game with their computer mouse. When enabled, moving the camera is as simple as holding down the right mouse button and moving the cursor to any of the four screen edges. Additionally, players can effortlessly switch between different cameras using the mouse wheel.
Additional Accessibility Settings
In addition to the settings mentioned above, there are more options that might be helpful for some players. Intruders, Spiders & Blood Players can disable intruders (jumpscares), spiders and blood visuals in the gameplay settings at any time. Full Audio Control The "Audio" tab provides players with a variety of sliders, allowing them to adjust different sounds and music individually. For example, you can set the in-game music volume separately from the main menu music volume. Controls Players have the option to customize the keyboard and gamepad keybindings according to their preferences. Gamepad Mouse Cursor Sensitivity To report anomalies in the game, players can use the mouse to click on them. For gamepad users, the left stick can be used to move the cursor. The cursor sensitivity for gamepad users can be customized in the game settings.
Accessibility-Manager
To help with any questions regarding accessibility, I've invited a community member, "WinryGames," to join the team. She will be there to help answer your accessibility-related questions through email or on our Discord server.
