The Role Music Player (RMP) is a digital soundboard application designed for Tabletop RPG sessions, aiming to provide players with a more immersive experience through audio (Music, ambient sounds, transitions).
We want to take different musical languages around the world closer to storytellers and RPG players.
The Role Music Player (RMP) is an interactive audio controller application that allows sound manipulation in different layers aiming to offer to users a total control of volume and density. All that in an organic and continuous way.
In the application it is possible to load different themed packages called “Dimensions”. Each one has 5 musical themes, 5 ambient sounds and 10 stingers (short sounds for pontual and important moments in the narrative). Every “Dimension” explores a specific subgenre that exists into a broader context like Dungeons and Dragons, Cyberpunk and Call of Cthulhu. All directed to the universe of Role Playing Games and to storytellers, our main public.
RMP’s great differential is the possibility to control the music density in real time, allowing the narrator to keep their voice present (without the need to lower the audio volume) and at the same time as they collaborate to create narrative moments either intense or calm.
Storytelling is fueled by different cultures that we have around the world as they are rich and extremely diverse. Fiction is inspired in real stories and so is the contrary. In this context the Role Music Player looks into approaching these different cultures in the means of a collaborative musical production project in which the artist is at the center of distribution and everything they bring to the table is welcomed. We believe that for every story there is a unique soundtrack hidden somewhere out there and the Role Music Player aims to be the bridge in which this soundtrack is discovered and reaches storytellers. Every single one of these interactive albums will be signed by a specific artist and will be called “Dimension” inside the RMP.
Storytelling impacts us by its capacity to vary emotion and subdue expectations. In this sense the RMP offers to each one of its “Dimensions” 5 different musical themes to accompany the nuances in each narrative and maintain the instrumental and originality between the themes.
This project’s grand differential is the possibility to control the density of each musical theme, allowing that the immersion provided by the musical tracks don’t lose themselves but also adapt to each narrator’s style. Using the low density setting makes it not necessary to lower the volume of the music as it tends to overshadow the narration. At the same time, it is possible to reserve the high density settings to epic moments in the narration. The density control was developed through the manipulation of the quantity of instruments and the application of dynamic filters that allow the users a broad gama of immersion possibilities.
