What happened to development?
Ahoy lads!
Whether you know me from The Caribbean Sail, Captain Blacksword, or just liked the character designs; this post is long overdue. Five years overdue.
Not canceled, not actively in development.
As the man at the helm of Victorian Clambake, there is no development news as there has been no active development on this game in years as you can see here: https://twitter.com/Jolly_Riot I still want to make this game, I still have a vision for it, I still think it will be an absolute banger someday. So why isn't it moving?
What happened?
I was creating this game on an even keel with the cartographer (Graphic designer, artist, and co-conspirator) and one day, I outlined how much work would be required to finish the game in the art style he had created. It would look great, but, it would probably take more than a lifetime to make without funding and a team increase. I wasn't ready for that. He wasn't ready for that. Victorian Clambake was not ready for that. So we made a trade. An unspoken idea we were also working on took his attention while Jolly Riot held my heart, so we made a trade. He's got that one and Jolly Riot entirely belongs to me now.
What happens next?
I'm a one man crew at the moment so I'm going to finish Captain Blacksword. After that, I have a few choices: Work on another game idea I've had, take a second look at Shell Shuffle, or come back to Jolly Riot. If Jolly Riot is to be completed, I'll either need to raise a fortune on Kickstarter and source a team of artists capable of a hand drawn art style- or, the game will be scaled back and I'll make it a minimally pixelated game. Both would be a major turning point for the game but I'd still like to take a crack at bringing my vision for this game to life someday.
