Thank you so much for coming to playtest Parasite Attack 1984!
I will be uploading new builds around once per week. At the moment I am looking for general feedback and of course bug reports.
Introduction
Picture yourself as a terminal operator in an underground bunker. You are tasked with defending Earth from interstellar parasites that have come to drain Earth of it's natural resources.
How to play
Parasite Attack 1984 is a typing focused game. You type the grid coordinate that you want to fire at, and press enter (alternative keybinds coming later). E.g. if there is a parasite bearing down on B2, simply type b2 on your keyboard and press enter. You will need to judge the timing of the artillery shell/s to ensure that you hit your shot.
Parasites that reach the city will explode, taking some of your city's health. If your city's health reaches zero, you lose.
There are also (currently two) power-ups that you can collect by destroying them with your artillery:
[olist]
[*] Aim speed power-up: decreases the time that it takes for your artillery to aim at the next target.
[*] Reload speed power-up: decreases the time it takes to reload after a shot.
[/olist]
Recent changes
Most recently I have added a "new game settings" screen where you configure your next run.
The most notable new feature that needs playtesting is the Impact Artillery. The Impact artillery fires a quick burst of shells that will collide with parasites and power-ups. Each shell does a small amount of damage each, so it may take two (or sometimes more) volleys to destroy a parasite.
Challenge
The Explosive Artillery was the first artillery I added to the game, and I have played many hours with it at this point. If you are looking for a challenge, see if you can get to 10 minutes on Hard with the Explosive Artillery.
BYO music
I have included a few synthwave style tracks with the game, but I imagine after a while you might like to listen to something different.
I suggest turning the music volume to 0%, and playing with your own music playlist in the background. I imagine something like Carpenter Brut or the Brigador OST would be perfect!
