The symbolism of turnips in Frail Hearts

Frail Hearts: Versicorae Domlion

Frail Hearts: Versicorae Domlion is an old-school JRPG with a deep and mysterious storyline placed in a fictional dark city of Gris. Explore the story of four troubled souls and kill the abominations that threaten the existence of reality itself.
Hello dear visitors of the city of Gris, You could have paid attention to the frequency of mentioning turnips in the game, didn’t you?
Turnips are the core element not only of Frail Hearts: Versicorae Domlion, but also all of Sezhes' future projects. Do you know what turnips are? Roots. Edible, simple roots of various kinds. But why have we chosen to make them so important? As some may know, the original concept for Frail Hearts was created during our school days as a one-month project. Turnips were a joke related to a discarded part of the game, but Sebastiano (former member of Sezhes, and co-writer of the story) took this small element to a further level. In his mind, turnips could represent what Professor Ernest would see as his lost children: the form of an innocent soul. Alexis' story is, on the opposite, heavy and related to human frailness… The horrible actions the mind is able to generate. Using turnips would thus be a way to exorcize all of this negative energy and hope for something better in between all of that filth. Here's a list of places where you'll be able to find turnip-related objects: - Icon used for character and monster selection - Arthur and Ernest last name - A lamp In the Archeology Museum's studio - The handle of Museum's main entrance - The turnip field and the storage under the Church Characters will also speak a lot about them, especially in Cathrine and Arthur's arcs, as a medium of innocence. Color was also ideal for our idea, as one of the most common spices has a pinkish body and long, green leaves. A nice chromatic contrast between Alexis and the Twins. Lastly, have you ever seen the turnip flower? Well… it has 4 petals!
Would you like to learn more about the lore of Frail Hearts?
