Free Range Games are proud to present the official Art Exhibition of Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria! From the moment we began working on Return to Moria, the world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings has inspired the Free Range Games artists. We all share vivid memories of poring over hand-drawn maps of Middle-earth, and marveling at the original illustrations in the first editions. So we always knew we wanted to bring this world to life through visuals in our game. The Digital Art Exhibition takes the reader through not only our game development process, but on a journey through the past few years as we share our love for the art of The Lord of the Rings. From the Foreword: It was with great excitement and no small amount of reverence that we dedicated ourselves to this project. To fully realize a place as evocative as Moria, we had to take the written work and expand upon it, fill in some gaps, and also reconnect the setting with the outside world of Middle-earth as it exists in the Fourth Age. We took every consideration we could to do this with respect to the original material. We hope you enjoy the products of those efforts as much as we enjoyed creating them. - Bradley Fulton Art Director
Chapter Listing
The World Below - The design of the diverse environments found in Moria, from the upper city of Dwarrowdelf to the wilds of the Lower Deeps The Dwarves - The design of the Dwarves, including the original inhabitants of Khazad-dûm, and the many different tribes that answered Gimli’s call Dwarven Craft - A look at the huge variety of armor, weapons, and other cultural artifacts that add to the living world of Moria Servants of Evil - A description of the varied Orc and Goblin tribes that inhabit the different levels of Moria, from the feral creatures of the Deeps to the Uruks of Mordor Creatures of the Deep - A look at the wide variety of fauna, from beasts of nature, to fouler things that prowl in the deep spaces of the world And don't forget the map.... we love this Lord of the Rings map!
