The Denizen - Q&A

[p]Please feel free to ask any questions about my game here, I will do my best to answer them! Commonly asked questions: What genre is the game? What makes it unique?[/p][p]The Denizen is a small atmospheric third-person shooter that focusses on story, exploration and ranged combat with mechanical robots that are far larger than you.[/p][p][/p][p]How long will the game take to play?[/p][p]The plan is for the average playthrough of the game to be about 5 hours, but it may take longer if you are trying to discover all secrets, get all collectibles and earn all achievements.[/p][p][/p][p]What is the setting of the game? What inspired the visual style?[/p][p]The Denizen is set in an expansive, semi-open brutalist city called Light City, it is heavily inspired by brutalist architecture, such as the post-soviet 'khrishchyovka', and architecture and creatures found in Blame! manga by Tsutomu Nihei.[/p][p][/p][p]What kind of progression system does the game use?[/p][p]As you clear and explore various sections of the city, you will unlock 'blueprints' and collect 'NICS', these can be spent at 'The Eternal Foundry' to construct new weapons and equipment. You can also find encrypted logs and conversations from old inhabitants which can be read at computer terminals to reveal the deeper story of how Light City got the way it is.[/p][p][/p][p]What kinds of weapons can the player use?[/p][p]There are currently 3 weapons in the game:[/p][p]Rebar - Long rods of rusted metal that can be used in melee or thrown like a spear.[/p][p]The K-TECH Mk2 - A blocky .380 pistol that can hold up to 7 rounds.[/p][p]The Quantum Pulse Emitter - A powerful quantum pistol that fires a large energy beam to destroy anything in it's path.[/p][p]Each of these weapons are designed to have a different purpose, so all are useful in the late game.[/p][p][/p][p]What kind of story structure does the game follow?[/p][p]The Denizen is mostly linear, but various areas of the city can be cleared in any order. There will also be three endings you can get in the main story.[/p][p][/p][p]Are there difficulty settings or accessibility options?[/p][p]You will be able to choose from 3 difficulties (Easy, Normal and Hard). As for accessibility, there is a small selection of the most common tester-requested settings, such as mouse inverting, volume adjustment, screen resolution and VSync. In the future, I want to focus on adding controller support and support for multiple languages, as well as expanding the options to include more requested settings, but I want to get the game released first.[/p][p][/p][p]Will there be any multiplayer?[/p][p]No, The Denizen is purely a single player experience.[/p][p][/p][p]Is there a save system?[/p][p]Yes, the game has a checkpoint-based save system and will automatically save your progress as you play.[/p][p][/p][p]How do you plan to handle bugs or balance issues?[/p][p]Any bugs that are discovered will be patched as soon as possible and the game will be rebalanced after release if there are any issues.[/p][p][/p][p]Do you have any DLC planned for the game?[/p][p]I have a couple ideas for DLC floating around, but I want to wait until the game is released to make any plans.
