Our development team are all big fans of Darkest Dungeon (henceforth referred to as DD), and we've created a turn-based game inspired by its combat mechanics. But since we also love animals—there’s even a dog in the studio!—we decided to design the characters as anthropomorphic animals. These characters are called "Anim," a phonetic play on the word "animal" in English. Thus, the game is titled DongWu Odyssey, with "DongWu" being the pinyin for "animal" in Chinese.

Yes, it's that straightforward.
Here’s a more formal introduction to the game:
In DongWu Odyssey, you'll command a squad of Anim, inspired by real-world animals, embarking on a medieval journey, experiencing struggles of power and desire. Traverse the fantastical continent ruled by these Anim, navigating between towns and wilderness, encountering random events and map bosses, while gathering rare resources and powerful equipment.
This journey is full of dangers and opportunities. The game’s "permanent death" and "miasma" mechanics make sacrifice and chaos common occurrences. Players will need to make crucial decisions, manage losses, and stockpile resources to create a positive feedback loop and survive the challenging trials.
The combat is turn-based, with each Anim having a unique design from skill sets to character backgrounds. The diversity of characters allows for many playstyles to defeat tough enemies, so be sure to experiment with different team compositions.
Finally, the game will offer a native "Hardcore" mode for veterans and a "Safe" mode for a more relaxed experience, so every player can find enjoyment in their own way.
