Greetings! I’m Cole, the sound designer and one of the musicians on this project and I’m gonna talk about the fascinating and painful world of music and sound. I use Ableton Live 12 for all of my audio related needs and I sometimes use my microphone to record the sounds that I need for sound design stuff. When getting into sound design, it’s very important that you can actually understand the tools that you are working with. This means understanding audio effects, modulation, synths, folly, and all that other fun stuff. When making the sounds for this game, I’m usually given a list of sounds that I need to make and stuff gets added roughly every week or so. For general sound design, it’s really helpful to actually know how to create the sounds. I know how obvious that sounds but just trust me when I say it can be more complicated than it may seem. I’d say about 20% of the sounds that I’ve made for this game were made using only my mouth and light effects. The other 80% are modified synth sounds, synth chords, or stacked drum samples. Most of the synth sounds are taken from the Korg M1, Roland Dance Trax, Omnisphere, and Ableton stock plugins. Almost all of them require some sort of modulation or external effects which drive me crazy because finding the right sound means listening to the same sound 50 times with different effects until something sticks. Music for this game has been about as interesting as the sound design. PostElvis has put out some really amazing music for this game alongside TeffyD and Teravex. I have done a few tracks myself, but I can’t really say a whole lot. I can say that of the tracks I’ve done, they’re both really different from what I usually do. One of the tracks that we were gonna have ended up getting cut, so I completely changed the direction that I was headed with it and turned it into a song that’s now gonna be on my album. I really hope that you enjoy this game when it comes out because we (especially Payton) have been working overtime to make this as good as possible.
