Ringlorn Saga Gaiden is an adventure RPG inspired by the Japanese PC classics. A lost soul is called upon this accursed world to end the Dark Lord's reign over humankind and rediscover its purpose and memory along the way.

The project underwent a complete restart in late 2023. After going through an internal review, it became clear that the project suffered from fundamental issues and needed a fresh start.

[*] The new mechanical additions, such as half-steps, initially allowed for more complex maps and battles but also made the game less snappy and satisfying.
[*] Body possession felt like a nice gimmick for a bonus game mode, but it wouldn’t be able to carry the entire campaign in its current form, and after several iterations, it became clear that it would require more resources and time than we had to realize its full potential.
[*] Making sure that each body is fun to play proved to be an additional scope creep, as the number of enemy types is higher than in the original game.

In the end, the vertical slice wasn’t compelling and didn’t feel like a step forward, and the amount of work required to realize its full potential went way over the budget and the time we could allocate for this project.
Because of that, it was decided to roll back to the original game and iterate while not “fixing” what wasn’t broken in the first place. The body possession mechanic was scrapped, and while the story remained mostly the same, the concept changed to an adventure set in what can be described as an “RPG fail state”.

Ringlorn Saga Gaiden solidified earlier this year, with the game being about 40% complete, and we’re aiming to launch the game sometime this spring. We hope that despite these major changes you’ll enjoy a dark, yet cozy RPG.
The Steam page will be updated soon with new screenshots and details, and the devlogs will continue until morale improves.
