In this edition, we'll be diving into the exciting world of special effects and lighting, two critical components that enhance the immersion and visual appeal of our cooperative online shooter. Our lighting [b]guy[/b] has employed various techniques to create visually stunning environments like [i]Real-time Global Illumination[/i] or [i]Dynamic Lighting[/i]. It's not an easy job, it's more like making a movie than a game. Games nowadays are closer to the movies industry than ever, believe me :D [h1] Light, camera... It looked like this: [img]{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42179537/fb0f932ae107f9fc609aee246efc99ad36466fe4.gif[/img] Lightmaps are pre-calculated textures that store lighting information for static objects in a scene. By utilizing lightmaps, we can achieve realistic lighting effects, including the illumination resulting from explosions. Now see the one with more "fiery" lightmaps [img]{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/42179537/a98a5034b3e69d493e72be17909e555b62a7cc2c.gif[/img] Compare them to the one in the game! It's the same one ;) To create visually stunning explosions, we need to employ a combination of particle effects, shaders, and textures. The explosion's appearance is carefully crafted to evoke a sense of power, intensity, and chaos.
