Puppet House is a puzzle-adventure horror with escape room elements. A freak ritual creates a killer puppet, murdering anyone who enters the ventriloquist’s mansion. Detective Rick, seeking missing locals, will soon face his greatest horror.
Hi,
Puppet House is well underway, and we thought it was time to share a little about what led us to create this spooky, yet not-so-serious, game. Our goal? To weave together an eerie tale brimming with unexpected twists, all wrapped up in the nostalgia of those cheesy-but-chilling campy horror movies. And what is creepier (and funnier) than a puppet that's up to no good?
There was an idea…
To craft a story set in an abandoned house where players would constantly feel like they’re being watched. Not by a typical horror villain, but by something that really shouldn’t be that terrifying - at least, not at first glance. Enter the puppet. When you meet this unsettling little creature at the start of the game, you might not even feel scared. At first, you may not be scared of your main enemy. But trust us, that false sense of security will vanish very quickly.
The mystery is…
The puppet is alive! We all have that one memory - the first time we saw a creepy, murderous doll in those old VHS horror flicks. Child’s Play, Puppet Master... you knew something was terribly wrong when the ‘innocent’ toy came to life. That’s the exact kind of dread we wanted to capture in Puppet House. You might start off thinking, ‘This little guy isn’t so bad’, but before long, you’ll be rethinking every childhood toy you ever owned.
People are scared of dolls and puppets because…
There is a concept of them being ‘uncanny’. It’s all about the eerie mix of familiarity and unnaturalness. These figures are meant to look human, but there’s always something off - the blank stares, frozen smiles, and stiff movements. It’s like they’re imitating life, but not quite right, which sets off alarm bells in our brains.
Add in the idea that they could come to life at any moment, and you've got a recipe for fear. It’s no wonder dolls and puppets have become horror staples - they blur the line between harmless toys and potential nightmares.
